SERINEX MEDICAL PRODUCTS
The first product designed to prevent the risk of pressure injury progression.
DuraDerma is a topical silk-fibroin gel that strengthens skin — addressing a $26.8 Billion U.S. burden for hospital-acquired pressure injuries (PI) for which there is currently no labeled prevention of progression product.
THE CLINICAL PROBLEM - PRESSURE INJURIES
Pressure injuries are progressive and a key source of infection.
Pressure injuries (also known as bedsores, pressure ulcers, or decubitus ulcers) are wounds that form in immobilized patients. There are no current products labeled to reduce the risk of forming a pressure injury nor to reduce the risk of progression of early-stage pressure injuries.
Pressure injuries form at points of prolonged pressure — progressing from non-blanchable skin to exposed muscle and bone. Addressing the injury at Stages 1–2 avoids the steep cost of progression.
Why hospitals cannot ignore pressure injuries
Stage III and IV hospital-acquired pressure injuries are classified as “never events.” The economics fall entirely on the hospital — creating a strong, structural pull for a product that prevents them.
8.4% in inpatient hospitals; 11% in nursing-home residents; 25% of NICU patients; 420M global hospitalizations per year; 12.8% incidence globally in hospitalized adults; 2.5M pressure injuries in the US annually.
THE PRODUCT
DuraDerma safely strengthens skin
A topical gel of medical-grade silk fibroin, applied alongside standard of care to at-risk points of body contact, to reinforce intact skin and enhances resilience against mechanical stress and shearing forces that drive pressure injury.
Preventative, not reactive. Acts on intact skin — unlike dressings and NPWT used on open wounds.
Intended for twice daily application by a provider to high-risk contact points in bedridden, immobilized patients.
Augments standard of care to improve efficacy rather than replacing existing protocols.
Reinforce the skin before deep-tissue injury occurs
DuraDerma works upstream of the wound — strengthening intact skin so it withstands the mechanical stress that initiates pressure injury.
Head-to-head preclinical evidence against leading products
In preclinical evaluation versus leading competitor products, including Cavilon® / 3M, DuraDerma outperformed on the three measures that matter most: Collagen preservation, pressure injury progression, fewer inflammatory cells. Illustrative of reported findings; detailed datasets available under CDA.
THE OPPORTUNITY
A large, costly, structurally under-served market
In the U.S. more than 15 million patients are at-risk of developing a pressure injury and more than 2.5 million cases occur each year1 resulting in >$26.8B in care costs (>$70B globally, >100M at-risk patients). Late-stage injuries cost up to $44,000 per case.
Reducing the risks of developing a pressure injury or progression of an early-stage injury in at-risk patients is one of the largest unmet medical needs in the advanced wound care market.
